Interior decoration ideas provide good guidance for family rooms you can use one decorative piece or piece of furniture as the focal point and decorate around it. One high quality piece of furniture, electronics or a painting can carry the effect of the whole room and you can decorate around it. Be careful and don't over decorate, since all the family members will spend time there space is important. A good suggestion is having multi-tasking furniture that can be opened and folded back to save space.

The family room is usually arranged around a focal point, so by changing the way the main feature appears can change the look of the room. A new entertainment center or a LED television can make this change, and other tricks can be retiling the fireplace or replacing the mantle. If the window is the focal point redecorate the windows.

There's a formula to creating a magical monotone room, and Ashley Stringfellow of Modern Glam created the perfect space by incorporating tons of texture to liven up her living room. The pops of blush tones in accents combined with her paneled wall make for a visually interesting space to curl up in with a book.Family rooms are a very popular space in the home where the family relaxes and come together to enjoy TV, study and other activities. Since the room is well used and lived in, the furniture undertakes heavy usage and the décor looses its freshness quickly.

Add family-themed accessories. It's important that you use those items that are meaningful to your family in the this room. Display plenty of family photos on the walls, and even feature those crafts that your children created in school. Photos taken on a fun vacation can be displayed on a coffee or sofa table; if your family loves to play chess or checkers, leave the set sitting out on a game table. All of these things make your family room look cozy and lived-in.

Once you've identified all the necessary functions that the new family room needs to accommodate, you'll want to start designing the details such as fireplaces, the TV location, and furniture layouts. The primary issue with incorporating a fireplace in a family room is that it competes for the same space as the TV. There are many ways to solve this problem, with the obvious one being placing the TV above the fireplace. Be careful with this solution, though, as it can lead to an uncomfortably high viewing angle. Often incorporating a television that is adjacent to the fireplace, or arranging a seating group that is at right angles where one side faces a television and the other side faces a fireplace can solve this problem. When possible we like to expand the family room addition to the outside by adding French doors or sliding doors. A deck or patio outside a family room can help make a smaller room feel larger. A well designed family room can serve many purposes if well thought through in the planning stages. This often means thinking ahead and planning the type of furniture, the size and location of the television, and the location of the fireplace. But once you figure out all the pieces of the puzzle, they can be assembled into an artful solution that integrates into the existing house and provides a new space that will serve your family well for many years in the future.

But don't get too wrapped up in trying to make your television or media center the focal point in your family room. It isn't really necessary. Really, almost everyone has a television now, so why make it your focal point when it really isn't a special piece? It isn't the focal point in my family room. I just prefer to have a nice ornate mirror or large framed photos above my couch, with decorative candle sconces on each side. Having decorative lamps on end tables that are on each side of the couch help pull together the focal point. Large figures or statues, or large vases with artificial floral or bamboo stems can be used at one end of your sofa instead of having lamps at each end. Whatever style or color scheme you use to decorate your family room, be sure to keep it comfortable. I wouldn't recommend formal style furniture in your family room since it is a gathering room where people want to relax. And remember, in a room where many gather, there are more spots and stains. Choose furniture with upholstry that is stain resistant or with covers that are easy to remove and wash. Upholstry with dark colors or having leather furniture are great choices for a family room. Adding ottomans or foot rests are also nice pieces to prop your feet up, and they provide extra seating when you

Rather than buying expensive furniture and décor that match, look for diverse pieces with a unifying theme, color and style for the family room. A popular trend is cushions that don't precisely match the couch. You can use the basic couch, but have slipcovers custom made for the cushions and replace them. You can always use the original covers later, always use a vibrant and exciting shade in fabrics.

If your family room already has a monochromatic color scheme, use other colors. Move away from standard accessories for color and add a chair, a bean bag or a rug that is full of color which brings a new energy to the room. You can add a study table with book shelves or a TV theatre system, whatever the add-in it should be vibrant and should appeal to the whole family complementing the color scheme at the same time.
